The City’s contractor begins the sidewalk upgrades portion of the project at the north side of Harding Street between Orange Avenue and Cherry Avenue. Work takes place between 7:00 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. Residents will have full access along Harding Street traveling both east and west bound. Parking may be impacted on the north side due to the contractor's need to access for sidewalk improvements.
The City’s Contractor, All America Asphalt, is scheduled to begin construction in the area in mid-March 2024 with a scheduled completion, barring weather or other unforeseen delays, Summer 2024.
The project includes removing existing pavement, resurfacing the roadway, sidewalk replacement, new curb/gutters, ADA compliant curb ramps, bikeway, and other appurtenant work.
The contractor is scheduled to perform work Monday through Friday from 7:00 AM to 3:30 PM. No parking signs will be posted for a minimum of three days prior to the start of work. Efforts will be made to maintain as much parking as possible.
Intermittent intersection closures may be necessary to complete this project. While the contractor will attempt to open streets as soon as it is safe to do so, we encourage the use of alternate routes during work hours.
The contractor encourages residents to:
- Keep children away from the street and construction activities; and
- Reduce water runoff from driveways and lawn irrigation into the street before or during construction activities.

Project Information
The Harding Street Between Orange Avenue and Cherry Avenue Project will resurface the roadway and replace sidewalks, curbs, and gutters. Public trees that are damaging the road and sidewalk will be removed. Storm water drainage will be improved by the addition of gutters along all replaced curbs. Harding Street was identified to be eligible for a corridor improvement project, as part of the Measure A-funded street projects.
Project Funding
This project is currently supported by State and Measure A funding. Measure A is a Long Beach ballot initiative approved by voters in 2016 as a 10-year sales tax to fund public infrastructure and public safety services and was extended indefinitely by voters in 2020.
