About The Program

 Westside Promise (WSP) is a 10-year community investment plan for West Long Beach, an area that has been historically under resourced. In the coming years, the Community Development Department will be coordinating programs in the area and identifying grants and other partnerships to help bolster investment in the westside.

The current WSP focus is on areas that revolve around housing supply, climate resiliency, capital improvements and economic development.  Job Opportunities – Long Beach Job Corps Center is Hiring!
Long Beach Job Corps is a residential Employment and Training Program for at-promise youth and young adults, ages 16 to 24, that is funded by the Department of Labor. They are located on the Westside of Long Beach at 1903 Santa Fe Ave.

Port of Long Beach Community Grants Program – Facility Improvements
Facilities serving children, pregnant women, older adults or chronically ill individuals within a priority zone covering neighborhoods near the Harbor District and areas surrounding the 710 Freeway corridor are invited to apply for funding from the Port of Long Beach Community Grants Facility Improvements Program. Eligible organizations include schools, senior centers, churches, daycare centers, etc. Funding is available for air filtration, tree planting and landscaping, energy efficient lighting, electric vehicles and charging stations and other quality of life improvement projects. Applications will open late October.


Algalita Marine Research and Education Mini-Grant for Students
Each $500 grant supports student-led projects that go beyond cleanup to create lasting solutions—whether through reusables programs, repair cafés, education campaigns, advocacy or creative reuse initiatives. Student Mini-Grants empower students ages 11-25 worldwide to take action on the root causes of plastic pollution in their schools and communities.

10 students will be selected, and applications open Wednesday, Oct. 15, 2025. 


Long Beach Tree Planting Program
The Long Beach Office of Climate Action and Sustainability offers a program for residents to add more greenery to their neighborhood. Through the Parkway Tree Planting Program, residents can apply to receive a free tree for their parkway at longbeach.gov/treeplanting.

How to Sign Up:
  • Choose a tree from the list of available trees.
  • Complete the tree planting permit and tree maintenance agreement forms.
  • Submit your forms by email to TreeRequest@longbeach.gov OR mail them to:
