As part of our ongoing commitment to external communications and providing valuable information to our community, the Department posts preliminary information about incidents that occurred the previous evening, including shootings and stabbings, as well as any other LBPD updates to the Department’s homepage and on the “News” tab of the Department’s website. This page will be updated as new incidents occur.

Here’s a recap of incidents occurring last night:

  • No-Hit Shooting – 61st Street and DeForest Avenue: On May 6, 2025 at approximately 5:47 p.m., officers responded to the area of 61st Street and DeForest Avenue regarding a shots call. The preliminary investigation indicates that a male adult suspect discharged a firearm towards a group of subjects, subsequently resulting in a subject returning fire. Officers located evidence indicating a shooting had occurred. All the subjects fled the scene prior to officers’ arrival. Suspect information and the motive for the shooting are under investigation. No injuries were reported.

  • Hit-Shooting – 7th Street and Cherry Avenue: On May 6, 2025 at approximately 8:33 p.m., officers responded to the area of 7th Street and Cherry Avenue regarding a shots call. Upon arrival, officers located evidence indicating a shooting had occurred. A male juvenile victim self-transported to a local hospital with a non-life-threatening gunshot wound to the lower body. The preliminary investigation indicates that the victim and a group of suspects were involved in a physical altercation, which escalated when one of the suspects discharged a firearm, striking the victim. The suspects fled the scene prior to officers’ arrival. Suspect information and the motive for the shooting are under investigation. 

  • Traffic fatality – 7th Street and Terraine: On May 7, 2025 at 6:20 a.m., officers were dispatched to the area of 7th Street and Terraine Avenue regarding an injury traffic accident. Long Beach Fire Department personnel arrived on scene and determined two adult males to be deceased. Preliminary information reveals a male adult was driving his vehicle on the wrong side of the road when he collided with another vehicle. The investigation is ongoing. A news release detailing the information will be available today.
