SUPPORT BUREAU
The Support Bureau provides varied services and includes the Jail Division, Port Police Division, Security Services Division, and the Training Division.
Jail Division
The Jail Division is responsible for functions associated with the housing and caring of prisoners.
Port Police Division
The Port Police Division works closely with the Port of Long Beach
Security Services Division
The Security Services Division provides specialized security functions.
Training Division
The Training Division is responsible for all training provided to members of the Long Beach Police Department. This includes the 27-week Basic Academy for the training of Police Recruits as well as the ongoing professional training of police officers throughout their career. Officers comply with Peace Officers Standards and Training (POST) minimum requirements as well as legislative and OSHA mandates. The Training Division is also responsible for overseeing manuals and orders, in-service training, human relations and diversity training, recruitment, backgrounds, and the police pistol range.
Staff is responsible for conducting all background investigations for police officer recruits, civilian employees, volunteers, and Long Beach Firefighter recruits. The Police Department makes every effort to hire the most qualified employees for all available positions to ensure the best service is provided to our community.
