Pet Reunion
We maintain an online listing of all the animals in our shelter, and owners looking for a lost pet are encouraged to check there daily. Due to the descriptions of animals that may vary, the owners of lost pets need to come into the shelter and look for their lost animals frequently.
We also provide several other resources and information to aid pet owners in finding a missing animal. For more information, check out our Lost and Found Animals page.
HOW DO I REUNITE WITH MY PET?
Come to the shelter during normal business hours to pick up your pet. You must be 18 years old or older to redeem an animal. Please bring your government-issued photo ID. If you have the following documents then please bring them as well.
- Proof of license
- Proof of rabies vaccination
- Certificate of sterility
- Medical records for pet
- Adoption or purchase of documents
- Microchip information
- Photo of animal (combined with documents above)
We require proof of ownership to reunite a pet with a person.
Prior to an animal's release in accordance with local and state law, LBACS will provide the following if proof is not provided:
- Dogs and cats rabies vaccinations
- Microchip implant
- Pet license (for our five service cities of Long Beach, Signal Hill, Cerritos, and Los Alamitos).
- No checks accepted.
Once a pet has been adopted into a new home, that pet belongs to the new adopter. If your pet has been adopted, staff will contact the new owner and ask if they wish to return the pet or contact you. The new adopter may choose not to return the pet or contact you, no other action can be taken. Adoptions are final.
