The Digital Services Bureau (DSB) leads the City’s digital transformation efforts. Our core competency lies in managing enterprise platforms that improve the lives of Long Beach staff and constituents alike.
What gets us excited:
- The well-being of our people. Our leadership team is focused, first and foremost, on the well-being of our team. We seek to build meaningful relationships to promote a culture rooted in respect and integrity.
- Emerging tech. We thoughtfully consider the hype versus reality of new tech, constantly weighing how to balance security risks while still introducing new productivity tools to our colleagues.
- Proliferating data access and usage. We are leading a data modernization effort to usher in a modern tech stack and democratize data access safely and responsibly. We are keen on providing data tools and training to our fellow staff to ask and answer pointed questions about their programs and services.
- Maintaining the present while building a better future. We take our present-day portfolio seriously but know there is room to improve legacy processes and technologies. We are constantly learning and looking for ways to serve our community better.
- Process improvement. While we love technology, process improvement, and automation tools, we realize that technology for the sake of technology rarely pays off. Good tech can’t overcome poor processes, so we aim to add value by listening to our partners and figuring out what they need versus what they ask for.
- Enabling others and sharing knowledge. We do not believe in gatekeeping knowledge as a means of job security or advancement. Our goal is to cultivate a high-performing team that actively shares knowledge and information and is committed to each other's development. This philosophy extends to the products that we manage – we do not want to be the sole experts in any product for the purpose of job security. We will gladly share technical tools and concepts with non-technical colleagues who are interested in learning new skills.
