Youth Climate Programs
Climate Ambassadors
The Climate Ambassadors Program is a new City initiative to increase community participation in climate action. Youth Climate Ambassadors who are passionate about climate action and environmental justice in Long Beach are encouraged to apply. Climate Ambassadors will support various climate projects to address issues such as extreme heat, air quality, and climate resilience with the City of Long Beach. Through this 10-week paid program, Climate Ambassadors will gain a better understanding of climate action and adaptation in Long Beach and work directly with the Long Beach community.
Climate Corps
The Youth Climate Corps Program is currently under development and is funded as a part of the Coronavirus Local Fiscal Recovery Fund established under the American Rescue Plan Act. This program will place youth in positions with public agencies or nonprofits and provide training and support services to participants. These placements will support Long Beach’s Climate Action and Adaptation Plan implementation actions and address key climate issues of extreme heat, air quality, drought, flood, and waste. Youth will then be placed in permanent positions with public agencies, nonprofits, or the private sector upon completion of the program.
