Melody E. Osuna, Alternate Commissioner

Melody Osuna is an eight-year resident of Long Beach, currently living in District 8 with her husband, daughter, and cats.  She had strong ties to the Long Beach community through her family while growing up next door in Cypress. She spent summers at her grandparent’s home in the Bixby Hill area.  For 35 years, her father was a control operator with the Haynes Generating DWP station; and her sister is a graduate of Long Beach State, Go Beach!

When Osuna and her husband got married, she told him, “we are moving to Long Beach,” because she knew how truly special Long Beach is.  They started married life in the Bluff Heights neighborhood, during which her husband completed his master’s degree at Long Beach State. When the time came, they were fortunate to move to the County Club Manor neighborhood in District 8.

In addition to being a resident, Osuna also provides free legal services to low-income Long Beach residents. She has had various roles working with the communities in Long Beach including being an in-house legal aid attorney at county and VA medical facilities.

Osuna joined the Independent Redistricting Commission because she felt her experience as a resident and employee in Long Beach provides her with an understanding of the diversity that makes this City great. She wants to ensure that the process for choosing new district lines is done with integrity and honors all the people of Long Beach.
