Ramona Park Signature Playground Project

Latest Updates - August 2024

The Project team has finalized the designs for the Ramona Park Playground Project and has incorporated community feedback into the final design plans. The City has recently advertised the work for public bid and is currently evaluating General Contractor bids for responsiveness. After this process is completed, the City will make a recommendation to award a contract to the lowest, responsive, and responsible bidder. Construction is anticipated to start in early 2025. • May 2024 Update

  The Ramona Park Signature Playground Project has finalized design and incorporated community feedback including the following elements:

  1. New light pole for added light, safety, and security
  2. Tot-lot fencing to enhance safety
  3. An all-inclusive whirl play feature
  4. Picnic tables near both play areas

  Renderings of the final design can be seen below.

  The project is moving forward with a competitive BID procurement process to select and hire a contractor to manage construction. More details of the BID can be found on Long Beach Buys, https://longbeachbuys.buyspeed.com/bso. Construction start is anticipated to begin in early 2025.
  
  

• July 2023 Update

  After the community meeting event on March 16, 2023, the project team incorporated improvements to the draft concept design.

• March 2023 Update

  The City of Long Beach invites the community to learn about the Ramona Park Playground Project on Thursday, March 16, 2023 at 5:30 p.m. at the Ramona Park Community Center (3301 East 65th Street). Join us to hear about project updates and next steps for the upcoming improvements. Interpretation services are available if requested by March 8, 2023 via e-mail contactlbpw@longbeach.gov.

Project Information

The Ramona Park Signature Playground improvements replaces playground equipment with exciting, inspiring, and inclusive play equipment; improves overall visitor experience with new amenities, seating, benches, and landscaping; and improves ADA access within and to the playground.

This project aims to:

• Improve accessibility by incorporating new inclusive play features
• Address extreme heat by adding cooling features such as shade structures, trees, and a fog mister
• Improve overall visitor experience
• Extend the useful life of the playground

The project began with a location study that took into consideration the current playground uses. The study determined that the new playground will remain in the existing location and almost double in size. From there, the team commenced conceptual design. The team has developed a concept design and will be presenting to the community for input on March 16, 2023.
