Mark Twain Library Improvements

Mark Twain Library entrance

Background

The Mark Twain Neighborhood Library has occupied several different locations since its opening in 1930 but has remained a constant space for education and gathering in one of Long Beach’s most densely populated neighborhoods for decades. Its current space at 1401 E. Anaheim St. opened in 2007 and was the first building in Long Beach to receive the Silver Medal LEED Award from the U.S. Green Building Council.

In line with the library’s status as a leader in building sustainability, it will be undergoing upgrades to its heating and cooling systems and associated electrical and structural improvements. The library’s current HVAC system is reaching the end of its life and will be replaced along with the existing rooftop mechanical system of an air conditioning unit, boiler, pumps and tanks. This project will implement energy savings for the facility by replacing the current system with new, increased energy efficiency system which will extend usability and useful life of the facility.

This project is part of the Elevate ’28 Infrastructure Investment Plan, a historic initiative dedicated to enhancing Long Beach parks, community facilities, mobility access, and streets. Learn more at lbelevate28.com.
