Emergency Shelter Improvements

Latest Updates - April 2024

The City’s Contractor, Goodmen Roofing Construction, is scheduled to start construction on phase 1 of the project on April 29, 2024, with a scheduled completion, barring weather and other unforeseen delays, by July 2024.

The contractor is scheduled to perform work Monday through Friday from 7:00 AM to 3:30 PM. Efforts will be made to minimize inconveniences to ongoing programs at the shelter.

Phase 1: Roof Repairs – The upper roof will receive minor repairs and the lower roof’s membrane will be replaced.

Phase 2: Building Improvements – Interior improvements include new offices, restrooms, showers, and a kitchen as well as new electrical and HVAC systems with newly insulated walls. Exterior improvements to the building include a pet run area, outdoor seating, exterior lighting, and updated parking with ADA access. 

• February 2024 Update

  The City of Long Beach purchased the property located at 702 W. Anaheim on September 28, 2023 to convert the building into a permanent, year-round shelter and annual winter shelter for people experiencing homelessness. The project scope is undergoing development.

Project Information

The 702 Anaheim Emergency Shelter Conversion Improvements Project involves conversion of the existing building to an emergency shelter with a new energy efficient HVAC system, upgraded plumbing and sewer systems, an upgraded roof, and other tenant space enhancements.

Project Funding

The 702 Anaheim Emergency Shelter Conversion Improvements Project has received $5,700,000 in Measure A funds.
