Background
The El Dorado Park Paving, Wayfinding and Parking Improvements project will create a safer, more accessible and enjoyable experience for visitors to El Dorado East Regional Park.The phased project will begin with resurfacing roadways and parking lots that have deteriorated over time due to damage from tree roots and other environmental factors, followed by wayfinding and parking management improvements.
This project is part of the Elevate ’28 Infrastructure Investment Plan, a historic initiative dedicated to enhancing Long Beach parks, community facilities, mobility access and streets. Learn more at lbelevate28.com.

Objectives
- Address deteriorated road surfaces through necessary maintenance and resurfacing, ensuring safer, smoother and more accessible driving conditions within the park
- Improve signage throughout the park to provide clearer navigation and help guests easily locate key areas, reducing confusion and enhancing the overall visitor experience
- Redesign entry points, payment and parking system to streamline vehicle flow, minimize congestion and reduce long car queues during peak visitation times
- Improve ADA accessibility
Proposed Features
- Newly repaved asphalt roads throughout the park (refer to image)

- New pay-to-exit model where park visitors can enter and pay for parking at kiosks, improving queue times

Project Updates
April 2025
The City’s contractor, All American Asphalt, has completed major improvements as part of the first phase of the project which includes parking lot and road construction improvements at El Dorado East Regional Park. This includes the Community Garden area in Area 1, Snake Road, Drag Strip and Nature Center Service Road in Area 2, and the Golden Grove and Old Ranger Station parking lots in Area 3. March 2025
Area 3
Road improvement work in Area 3 has been completed, however, construction remains ongoing in the Golden Grove and Old Ranger road parking lots. Full completion of Area 3 is expected in the upcoming weeks, barring weather or unforeseen delays.
Area 2
Area 2 Construction began on March 3, 2025, with a scheduled completion, barring weather or unforeseen delays, by the end of March 2025, in Area 2 (please refer to location map below). Area 2 will remain open with detours and exits at Wardlow Road.
Parking lots in Area 2 are expected to be closed on March 5, 2025, to allow for restriping. Limited access to the Dog Park, Archery Range, Olympic Grove and Campground Model Boat Lake are anticipated between March 10-14, 2025.
January 2025:
The City’s Contractor, All American Asphalt, will begin improvements in early February 2025 in two areas of the park.
Area 3
Construction is planned to begin on Feb. 3, 2025, with a scheduled completion, barring weather or unforeseen delays, by early March 2025, in Area 3 (please refer to location map below). Area 2 will remain open with exit detours at Spring Street and Wardlow Road.
The contractor is scheduled to perform work Monday through Friday from 4 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Parking impacts for residents are not expected. Efforts will be made to minimize inconveniences.
