DeForest Park Restroom Improvements
Additional project updates and information will be published on an on-going basis.
Background
In June 2024, an electrical failure caused a fire that destroyed the public restrooms at DeForest Park. For the safety of park visitors, the damaged structure was immediately fenced off and thoroughly tested for any hazardous materials before demolition eventually took place in June 2025.
The City is now moving forward with plans to rebuild a new restroom facility to restore this essential community amenity. The project will bring improved, modernized restrooms to the park, helping ensure a more comfortable and accessible experience for all who visit.
As part of a separate City initiative, a Throne smart restroom is currently available at DeForest Park through a pilot program led by the Technology and Innovation Department in collaboration with the Parks, Recreation and Marine department. This program aims to expand access to clean, safe, and technologically advanced public restrooms across Long Beach.
This project is part of the Elevate ’28 Infrastructure Investment Plan, a historic initiative dedicated to enhancing Long Beach parks, community facilities, mobility access, and streets. Learn more at lbelevate28.com.
