Background

The 14th Street Park Improvements Project is a phased project that will renovate park amenities including upgraded basketball courts, shade structures, picnic tables, benches, and enhanced safety at the Cedar Avenue and Locust Avenue intersections, as well as throughout the park and playground areas.

To shape the future of 14th Street Park, the community was engaged at a meeting on December 7, 2022, and a survey in spring 2023. Community members identified their top priorities for park improvements, including new tables and benches, playground upgrades, additional trees, art and murals, and a hydration station.

Phase one of the project began in January 2024 and included the installation of a new rubberized playground surface, replacement of broken and missing play equipment, safety enhancements, basketball court upgrades, and new seating and shade structures.

This project is part of the Elevate ’28 Infrastructure Investment Plan, a historic initiative dedicated to enhancing Long Beach parks, community facilities, mobility access, and streets. Learn more at lbelevate28.com.

Additional improvements will be implemented as future funding is appropriate as part of the Elevate28 Plan.
