At this time, Long Beach beaches and swimming areas have not been affected by the private company pipeline oil spill, originating in Federal waters, that is substantially impacting the shores and wetlands of Huntington Beach. The Long Beach Fire Department continues to work with the U.S. Coast Guard-lead Unified Command and monitor the water off-shore. As there is no water quality threat in Long Beach at this time, and as currents continue to pull south from Huntington Beach and not toward Long Beach, beaches and swimming areas will remain open. Should that change, the City of Long Beach is prepared to clear beaches immediately, start our own mitigation efforts and provide further updates.

While mitigations efforts continue, the City of Long Beach will continue to support its partners at the U.S. Coast Guard, the City of Huntington Beach, the City of Newport Beach and other Coastal Orange County cities.

Long Beach has approximately seven miles of public beach. To protect the safety of the public, weekly water samples are collected and tested routinely to monitor bacterial levels. For their safety, the community is encouraged to pay close attention to any warning signs posted at the beach.
