Long Beach, CA – The City of Long Beach Department of Parks, Recreation and Marine (PRM)’s Silverado Park Gym, located at 1545 West 31st Street, is temporarily closed for repairs. The gym recently closed after it was identified that the wooden floor was warped due to exposure from a leaky ceiling and water intrusion from the ground level, believed to be caused by the severe weather systems experienced this winter.

PRM is currently in the process of estimating repairs to replace the roof, mitigate any ground level water access, and replace floorboards as needed. PRM maintenance staff will work with contractors as needed to complete the repairs. A construction timeline and estimated reopening date will be established and shared with the community once bids are reviewed and accepted.

As a result of the closure, drop-in gym hours, available Monday through Thursday from 5 to 8 p.m., are temporarily postponed, and the upcoming youth indoor soccer league, beginning April 6, will relocate practice to outside. There are currently no permits for gym use by outside groups; permits will not be issued until the gym is ready to open.

Media inquiries may be directed to Jane Grobaty, Community Information Officer, Department of Parks, Recreation and Marine, at 562.570.3233 or Jane.Grobaty@longbeach.gov.
