The City of Long Beach Department of Parks, Recreation and Marine will host a Whoville Winter Village, a free family-friendly holiday event and designated Neighbor-to-Neighbor activation to support community connection during the holiday season.
“The holidays are a joyous time of celebration and festivities with family, friends and loved ones but can also be an isolating time for many,” said Mayor Rex Richardson. “As part of our Westside Promise initiative and Neighbor-to-Neighbor program, we continue to offer fun and engaging ways for residents to seek community and build stronger connections with their neighbors through events like the Whoville Winter Village.”
Community members are invited to bring their family and friends to enjoy a day of carnival games, crafts, cookie decorating, face painting, balloon twisting, family recreation games, snow, sledding, and pictures with Santa Claus and The Grinch. Whoville Winter Village will take place from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 14 at Silverado Park (1545 W. 31st St.).
Long Beach’s Neighbor-to-Neighbor program is a California Volunteers network and led by the City’s Office of Sustainability. These events are designed to empower Californians to take meaningful action in their community and help strengthen communities by bringing neighbors together to engage locally.
The City launched its Neighbor-to-Neighbor program in September 2024. The program is funded by a $500,000 grant from the State of California through California Volunteers, Office of the Governor. The fund’s focus is to expand California’s existing volunteer infrastructure and bolster the statewide Neighbor-to-Neighbor network to recruit, train, equip and organize neighbors to address community needs. The City was one of nine partner agencies selected through a statewide competitive process.
