Long Beach, CA – The City of Long Beach Community Development Department will host a community workshop to share information and gather feedback on the upcoming Enhanced Density Bonus Ordinance update. The workshop will take place on Thursday, Sept. 25, 2025, from 5:30 to 7 p.m. at the Long Beach Energy Resources Department Auditorium (2400 E. Spring St.).
The Enhanced Density Bonus Ordinance facilitates the development of mixed-income and multi-family housing by establishing regulations that provide developers with a density bonus and development concessions in exchange for the inclusion of on-site affordable housing units. Density bonus policies are strategic approaches that direct housing development toward areas where growth is planned to occur.
During he workshop, residents will have the opportunity to hear directly from the City’s Planning Bureau and the consulting firm RRM Design. Staff will present an overview of the proposed ordinance updates, answer questions and invite community input. Pre-registration is encouraged, but not required to attend. Interpretation services in Spanish, Khmer and Tagalog will be available upon request at DensityBonus@longbeach.gov. Feedback garnered at the workshop will help inform the ordinance update, which is expected to be drafted in Winter 2025, followed by public hearings and adoption in Spring 2026.
This workshop is part of the City’s ongoing efforts to expand affordable housing opportunities while promoting equitable growth and development. More information about the Enhanced Density Bonus Ordinance update, upcoming events and ways to get involved is available online at longbeach.gov/edb.
