Long Beach, CA – The City of Long Beach Department of Health and Human Services (Health Department) has launched a new data dashboard displaying local HIV data regarding people who are newly diagnosed with HIV or currently living with HIV, as well as data regarding people with HIV who died in Long Beach. The dashboard, which will be updated quarterly, will serve as a platform for providing interactive and timely information to the public.

“The new dashboard will empower our community with vital information to drive informed decisions and interventions tailored to our city’s residents,” said Mayor Rex Richardson. “This initiative reflects our dedication to fostering a healthier, more inclusive city for all.”

The HIV Data Dashboard offers a comprehensive look at HIV in Long Beach since 2019, including key demographic data such as race, ethnicity, gender, zip code and age. The dashboard is comprised of data collected by the City’s HIV/STI Surveillance Program and the California Department of Public Health’s Office of AIDS Program.

Several fields are interactive, allowing users to view the data with filters for calendar year, sex at birth and race/ethnicity. This allows users to get a comprehensive sense of HIV in Long Beach over time. For example, the dashboard shows that new diagnoses of HIV are trending down; however, it also illustrates that some populations in the city are disproportionately affected by HIV.

“This resource equips our community with timely insights, enabling proactive strategies to combat HIV transmission,” said City Health Officer Anissa Davis. “Investing in data-driven approaches strengthens our ability to support those affected.”

The dashboard was created as a result of feedback from the Long Beach HIV Planning Group, the local body for HIV prevention and care program planning in Long Beach. It may be used to further inform the City’s ongoing efforts to address HIV in Long Beach and support the City’s mission to reduce the number of people infected with HIV each year. By providing timely, recent data, the Health Department can enhance current initiatives using an equity lens. Additional data will be added to the dashboard as feedback is gathered from the community.
