Long Beach, CA – The Long Beach City Council will hold a Special Meeting on Thursday, Oct. 26, 2023, at 3 p.m. to discuss the Hotel Worker’s Minimum Wage Increase ballot measure and vote on whether to place the item on the March 5, 2024, ballot.
The Hotel Worker’s Minimum Wage Increase ballot measure, if adopted by Long Beach voters, will, among other changes, increase the minimum wage of hotel workers gradually over the next five years to $29.50 per hour starting on July 1, 2024. More details about the changes can be found in the Council letter for the measure here.
Community members may attend the meeting in person (Civic Chambers, 411 W. Ocean Blvd.) or watch the livestream on the City’s OneMeeting platform. Those interested in providing public comment have the option to submit online, by email at cityclerk@longbeach.gov or in person.
Pending the City Council’s approval to add this item to the ballot, the City of Long Beach will then seek argument writers for or against the measure. Those interested in writing arguments may submit an interest form to the Office of the City Clerk through 4:30 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 3, 2023. The interest form will be available on the City’s Ballot Measure webpage shortly following the Council action, if approved. Interest forms may be submitted via email to cityclerk@longbeach.gov or in person at City Hall, 411 W. Ocean Blvd., Lobby Level, Window 12.
Argument writers are designated by the Mayor, with approval of the City Council. The City Council will vote on those nominations at the City Council meeting on Tuesday, Nov. 14, 2023. Those selected as argument writers are required to submit direct arguments for or against the ballot measures by Friday, Dec. 8, while rebuttal arguments are due by Monday, Dec. 18.
