Long Beach, CA – On Saturday, March 15, 2025, City of Long Beach officials, alongside Long Beach community members and stakeholders, celebrated the grand reopening of Fire Station 14 following a comprehensive renovation and upgrade project funded by Measure A. The community event marked the completion of a key milestone in the City’s commitment to enhancing public safety and modernizing critical infrastructure.
“With advanced equipment, updated infrastructure and improved operational capabilities, the reopening of our new Fire Station 14 will equip Fire Department personnel with the tools and resources they need to respond to emergencies efficiently and effectively, further enhancing our ability to protect our community,” said Mayor Rex Richardson. “Together, we are building a safer, more resilient Long Beach.”
The grand reopening ceremony included remarks by City leaders, including Mayor Rex Richardson, Third District Councilmember Kristina Duggan, Fire Chief Dennis Buchanan, and other key stakeholders involved in the project, highlighting the vital role that Measure A funding played in revitalizing the City’s emergency services infrastructure. Throughout the event, tours of the newly renovated facility were provided, showcasing the improvements and innovations that are now part of the fire station. The updates will not only enhance operational efficiency but also improve overall emergency preparedness across Long Beach.
The $5.5 million renovation of Fire Station 14, located at 5200 E. Elliot St., is part of the City’s Elevate ‘28 Infrastructure Investment Plan and was made possible by approximately $4.7 million in Measure A funds, a voter-approved funding initiative with a goal to improve local public safety facilities and services. The upgrades to Fire Station 14 provide a modernized space that enhances both firefighter safety and operational efficiency, ensuring the department is equipped to respond to emergencies with the latest technology and resources.
“We’re proud to reopen the newly improved Fire Station 14 in District 3,” said Councilmember Kristina Duggan. “Supporting our Fire Department and firefighters with the facilities and tools they need to keep our community safe is a top priority, and this project wouldn’t have been possible without the funding support of Measure A.”
“This reopening marks a proud moment for the Long Beach Fire Department, our firefighters, and the entire community,” said Long Beach Fire Department Chief Dennis Buchanan. “Thanks to Measure A, Fire Station 14 is now equipped with upgraded facilities and tools that will allow us to serve Long Beach even better. This investment in public safety helps ensure that we can respond faster and more efficiently to the needs of our residents.”
The renovations to Fire Station 14 include significant upgrades to modernize living and sleeping quarters for firefighters. Prior to the remodel, the station had one male restroom and one gender neutral restroom for fire personnel; now the station includes additional male, female and gender-neutral restrooms. The station also now includes expanded and improved storage areas for firefighting equipment, enhanced safety features such as upgraded systems and fire suppression capabilities and modernized administrative spaces. Additionally, the renovated station now includes the latest state-of-the-art technology and systems designed to optimize emergency response times and provide a safer work environment for LBFD personnel.
“The reopening of Fire Station 14 marks a significant investment in the safety and resilience of our community,” said Director of Public Works Eric Lopez. “With these critical infrastructure upgrades, first responders have the modern facilities they need to serve Long Beach. This project reflects our continued commitment to strengthening public safety and enhancing essential City services for the benefit of our residents and visitors.”
The completion of the Fire Station 14 Project is just one of the City’s ongoing commitments towards investments in infrastructure and public safety. The renovations to Fire Station 14 represent a significant step forward in maintaining the highest standards of safety and service for the residents of Long Beach.
