Long Beach, CA – The City of Long Beach Department of Disaster Preparedness and Emergency Communications is encouraging local homeowners and renters, businesses of all sizes, and private nonprofit organizations affected by the severe winter storms that occurred between Jan. 31-Feb. 9, 2024, to take advantage of low-interest federal disaster loans being offered by the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA).
Through the SBA, disaster loans up to $500,000 are available to homeowners to repair or replace damaged or destroyed real estate and homeowners and renters are eligible for up to $100,000 to repair or replace damaged or destroyed personal property, including personal vehicles, incurred during the winter storms. Businesses of all sizes and nonprofit organizations may borrow up to $2 million to repair or replace damaged or destroyed real estate, machinery and equipment, inventory, and other business assets. SBA can also lend additional funds to help with the cost of improvements to protect, prevent or minimize disaster damage from occurring in the future.
Those eligible may apply online at SBA.gov/disaster. The deadline to apply for property damage is July 16, 2024. The deadline to apply for economic injury is Feb. 18, 2025.
As part of this effort, the SBA recently announced the opening of a Disaster Loan Outreach Center at the Los Angeles County Department of Mental Health (510 S. Vermont Ave., Ste. G-100, Ground Floor Conference Room, Los Angeles, CA 90020) to assist applicants with the application process and answer questions about SBA’s disaster loan programs. The center will operate 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. weekdays now through Wednesday, June 5.
People can also receive SBA customer service support by utilizing the Virtual Disaster Loan Outreach Center, open Mondays through Fridays from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. For more information or questions about the virtual center, people can email FOCAssistance@sba.gov or call 916.735.1501.
