Long Beach, CA – Long Beach Airport (LGB) recorded its busiest summer ever, welcoming more than 1.1 million passengers between June 1 and Aug. 31, 2024, marking a 4% increase compared to the previous summer record set in 2018.

“This historic summer travel record is a testament to the hard work of everyone at our Long Beach Airport in providing unmatched service to travelers,” said Mayor Rex Richardson. “Their dedication is why passengers place their trust in LGB as their preferred gateway in and out of Southern California."

A total of 1,104,994 travelers visited Long Beach Airport from June through August, representing a 14% increase compared to the same time period in 2023 and far outpacing projected industrywide growth rate, which was estimated at 6% for the season. This record total demonstrates LGB's significant recovery from the challenges of the pandemic, when the summer of 2020 saw just 111,437 travelers. The previous summer peak was 1,062,202 travelers in 2018.

“The impressive growth we've seen this summer demonstrates the confidence passengers have in Long Beach Airport," said Long Beach Airport Director Cynthia Guidry. "We are thrilled to set a new benchmark and remain committed to providing an exceptional travel experience with the completion of our Terminal Area Improvements Program.”

Delta Air Lines, Hawaiian Airlines and Southwest Airlines currently offer service to 24 nonstop destinations around the nation, including Hawaii, which is more nonstop service than at any time in LGB’s 100-year history.

Additionally, recent modernizations that are part of LGB’s $125 million Phase ll – Terminal Area Improvements Program have enhanced the overall experience from curb to gate, making travel even more convenient for passengers. The grand opening of the Historic Terminal, a historic landmark considered the crown jewel of the Airport campus, reopened in July.

Situated at a central position between Los Angeles and Orange counties, Long Beach Airport provides a distinctively stress-free journey and a first-class customer experience. Air carriers currently offer service to 24 nonstop destinations around the nation, which is more nonstop service than at any time in LGB’s 100-year history.

Monthly commercial passenger traffic reports are available on LGB’s website.
