Long Beach, CA – The City of Long Beach and local community partners continue to collaborate with residents and park users to re-imagine Scherer Park. The City’s Department of Parks, Recreation and Marine (PRM) will host the third and final installment of community workshops on Thursday, Oct. 19, 2023, from 6:15 to 8:15 p.m., where two concept plans will be unveiled, and meeting participants will have the opportunity to share their feedback.
In addition to the Oct. 19 workshop, taking place at the Boys & Girls Club of Long Beach (Eastman Clubhouse, 700 E. Del Amo Blvd.), community members can also share their feedback via the online feedback form, available now through Nov. 19, 2023. The two concept plans were shaped by community input from community surveys and workshops conducted earlier this year.
Feedback garnered will help develop the final vision plan, which may combine options from both concepts. The creation of a park vision plan will help to prioritize future improvements in a community-driven process and guide future investment when funds are available.
Scherer Park opened in 1959 and provides recreational opportunities to the Bixby Knolls community. The park currently features a basketball court, volleyball court, baseball diamond, playground and four tennis courts, as well as a lake, picnic areas and small recreation building with an office and multi-purpose room.
