Long Beach, CA – The City of Long Beach Development Services Department is seeking input from residents and businesses to help determine new zoning regulations along the Anaheim Street and Pacific Coast Highway commercial corridors and adjacent neighborhoods, as part of the ongoing Zone In: City Core planning effort.
The Zone In: City Core initiative will update zoning regulations to support the development of new housing and a greater mix of uses to create a more livable and sustainable community where residents, businesses, jobs and retail are located within close proximity with a more pedestrian-friendly design.
These zoning changes are anticipated to facilitate more than 3,000 market-rate and affordable housing units in the area. The effort will also improve the quality and safety of streets through strategic design and encourage the use of multimodal transportation.
The community is encouraged to learn more and share their priorities for the area by participating in two meetings, as listed below. Interpretation services will be provided in Spanish and Khmer during the presentations.

This is the third and final phase of the community engagement process for Zone In: City Core. Since the effort began in April 2022, there have been several opportunities for the public to get involved and have their voices heard, including a series of community events, focus groups and public surveys.
In addition to this effort, the City currently has two major rezoning initiatives underway: Zone In: WestLB, a collaboration with the community to rezone properties along West Willow Street and Santa Fe Avenue; and the Uptown Planning Land Use and Neighborhood Strategy, a collaborative effort between the City and North Long Beach community to guide future development through new zoning. These initiatives support the goals of the City’s General Plan Housing Element update, which was certified earlier this year.
Zone In: City Core is expected to go before the Long Beach City Council for adoption in spring 2023.
