Long Beach, CA – Today the City of Long Beach shared details for its 2025 Beach Streets Open Streets, taking place in West Long Beach on Saturday, May 10, 2025, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Hosted by the City of Long Beach and presented by the Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority (Metro), Beach Streets embraces the active commuting lifestyle by opening the streets and transforming them into safe, open areas for people to bike, walk and explore their neighborhoods. This year’s event will uplift the City’s Westside Promise Initiative, a 10-year community investment plan that aligns existing City efforts and leverages partnerships to address current and historic challenges facing West Long Beach.
This year’s event route will include Willow Street from Santa Fe Avenue to Long Beach Boulevard, as well as southbound Santa Fe Avenue from Willow Street to 20th Street and a small westbound section of Hill Street off Santa Fe Avenue. Entertainment hubs will be located along the route at Admiral Kidd Park, Hudson Park, and on Willow Street between Pacific Avenue and Long Beach Boulevard.
The welcome ceremony will take place at 11:30 a.m. at the main stage of the Willow Steet Hub, which will serve as the main hub of Beach Streets West. This hub will feature a variety of live music and performances, resource booths with information about the City’s Westside Promise Initiative and more, and a beer garden hosted by Long Beach Beer Lab. Musical performances will include DJ Las Chicas Tristes, The Smokin' 60s, Mariachi Divas, and Long Beach Undercover.
The Hudson Hub at Hudson Park will be the dedicated Beach Streets Kid Zone, sponsored by Long Beach Airport, and feature live performances by DJ Mike, as well as skate demos, a game truck, inflatables, face painting, food trucks and more. The Admiral Kidd hub will feature live performances by DJ Andres Renteria and DJ Elvin Estela, food trucks and a resource fair. Additionally, the Beach Streets West event will include multiple live performances along the event route, including DJ Otro Patrick Miller on the Willow Street bridge overlooking the I-710 freeway, DJ Desirable D on the corner of Willow Street and Santa Fe Avenue, and DJ Dennis Owens at Long Beach Beer Lab (518 W. Willow St.).
Local businesses, business districts and community groups along the event route will host a variety of entertainment, activities, information booths and more to attract foot traffic to and promote their businesses.
Beach Streets is an open streets event that began in 2015. Previous Beach Streets events have occurred in Uptown, Downtown, Uptown and Bixby Knolls, Cambodia Town and Zaferia, Willmore and Wrigley, and East Long Beach near California State University, Long Beach. Last year’s Uptown event also featured the City’s Veterans Day Celebration. Open Street events are popular throughout North America, as they promote the pursuit of innovative strategies to achieve environmental, social, economic and public health goals.
Westside Promise is a multi-department effort led by the Long Beach Community Development Department and in collaboration with other City Departments, including Public Works, Economic Development, Health and Human Services, Library Services and Parks, Recreation and Marine, and with oversight from the City Manager’s Office. The initiative focuses on areas related to housing supply, climate resiliency, youth and young adults, workforce and training, tourism, and capital improvements to City facilities like parks and health centers. In addition to neighborhood improvement, the initiative is also targeting economic development such as small business assistance and workforce training. The goal is to bolster and leverage investment in West Long Beach through entrepreneurship, grant funding and external partnerships.
