Long Beach, CA – The City of Long Beach Energy and Environmental Services Department will once again offer Holiday Treecycling, providing an accessible and responsible way to recycle live trees for residents. From Friday, Dec. 26, 2025, through Friday, Jan. 9, 2026, residents can drop off their used trees at 13 locations throughout Long Beach, at no charge.
Nearly 155 tons of holiday trees are recycled into landscaping mulch by the City each year, which equates to about 10,000 trees. Proper disposal of holiday trees through the Treecycling drop-off locations prevents fire hazards and reduces the number of illegally dumped trees in alleys and the public right-of-way.
Holiday trees are not accepted in organics carts as they are too heavy and bulky. To ensure holiday trees are diverted from the landfill, residents are encouraged to drop off their trees Dec. 26, 2025, through Jan. 9, 2026, at any of the convenient locations listed below. Drop-off hours are Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., and weekends from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. View a map of the drop-off locations on the City’s website.

Residents are asked to remove all decorations, take the tree out of the stand, cut trees in half if they are over 12 feet tall, and leave trees unwrapped. Flocked trees will be accepted; however, artificial trees will not be accepted.
To help ease the post-holiday strain on collection services, residents are strongly encouraged to drop off live trees at designated citywide locations. This is the preferred method, ensuring timely and efficient disposal. For those unable to visit a drop-off location, a one-time curbside collection will be available on Saturday, Jan. 10, 2026. Residents with City refuse, recycling and organics service must place their trees at their regular collection spot by 7 a.m. on Jan. 10 to ensure pickup.
