Today, June 27, 2018, the Long Beach Police Department has formally presented the case involving the shooting death of Long Beach Fire Captain David Rosa, and the injuring of Firefighter Ernesto Torres and a third individual, to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office for filing consideration. It is anticipated the District Attorney’s office will be filing charges this afternoon, and issuing a News Release commenting on the charges and the pending court process involving this case.
The Long Beach Police Department is aware of multiple erroneous news reports indicating that Long Beach firefighters were lured to suspect Kim’s residence in order to shoot them. This information is inaccurate and was not released by the Long Beach Police Department.
After multiple interviews and evaluation of the evidence, the preliminary investigation has led investigators to believe the fire was not set to draw first responders to the location to ambush them, but was a result of a dispute between the suspect and a neighbor. Additionally, a note drafted by the suspect and recovered at the scene leads investigators to believe this was a murder/suicide attempt. A motive for the shooting remains under investigation.
