On Monday, March 26, 2018, at approx. 7:40 p.m., officers responded to the Outer Traffic Circle and Los Coyotes Diagonal regarding an injury traffic collision, which resulted in the death of a male adult.
When officers arrived, Long Beach Fire Department personnel were on scene and rendering aid to the driver of a Honda Accord. Their preliminary investigation found that a 63-year-old male resident of Signal Hill was driving the 2000 Honda Accord eastbound on the Outer Traffic Circle. For an unknown reason, he failed to stop and collided into the rear of a 2009 Nissan Altima that was stopped in the eastbound left turn lane of the Outer Traffic Circle at Los Coyotes Diagonal, being driven by a 32-year-old female resident of Long Beach. The Honda continued through the intersection and came to rest against the rear of 1851 Ximeno Avenue.
The male driver, whose identity is being withheld pending notification of family, was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced deceased. It’s possible the driver may have experienced a medical emergency; however, the investigation remains ongoing. The female drive was uninjured.
Anyone who may have witnessed this collision is asked to contact L.B.P.D Collision Investigation Detective David Lauro at (562) 570-7355.
