On Feb. 11, 2021, at approximately 6:20 a.m., officers were dispatched to the area of Studebaker Road and Spring Street regarding a single-vehicle collision that resulted in the death of a female adult.
Upon arrival, officers located a single overturned vehicle. Officers found the driver had been ejected from the vehicle and was lying in the roadway just south of her vehicle. There were no other occupants in the vehicle. Long Beach Fire Department personnel responded but despite administering life-saving measures, the driver succumbed to her injuries at the scene.
Through their preliminary investigation, detectives believe the driver of a 2019 Dodge Challenger was traveling northbound on Studebaker Road when the driver may have experienced a medical emergency, causing her to lose control of her vehicle and accelerate at a high rate of speed. The vehicle collided with a raised planter box, became airborne, and struck multiple signs and a utility pole before coming to a rest upside down.
The driver was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the collision and was ejected from the vehicle. It is not believed drugs, alcohol, or distracted driving were a factor in the collision.
The Los Angeles County Coroner's Office identified the driver as Kylee Sooter, a 29-year-old resident of Long Beach.
