On Saturday October 14, 2017, at approximately 10:40 pm, Officers from the Long Beach Police Department were dispatched to an injury traffic collision on Shoreline Drive south of Ocean Blvd.

Upon arrival, officers discovered a 2003 Nissan on fire and the driver had been rescued from the vehicle.  Long Beach Fire Department personnel responded, put out the vehicle fire and transported the injured driver to a local hospital with critical injuries.  A female passenger in the 2003 Nissan was ejected during the collision and was determined deceased at the scene.  The male driver later succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased at the hospital.  The female passenger is a 19 year old resident of Long Beach.

The second vehicle, a 2011 Infinity, remained at the scene and it's driver, a 24 year old resident of Long Beach, cooperated with the investigation and was later released from the scene.  The driver was uninjured.

The preliminary investigation revealed that the 2003 Nissan, driven by a 19 year old male resident of Long Beach, was northbound Shoreline Drive from Linden Avenue when he made an unsafe lane change in front of the 2011 Infinity and lost control of his vehicle.  Upon losing control, the 2003 Nissan collided with the raised center median, a tree and then a concrete barrier.  After colliding with the concrete barrier the 2003 Nissan spun away in a northeasterly direction, collided with the 2011 Infinity and came to rest near the east curb of Shoreline Drive, south of Ocean Blvd.

Excessive speed may have also played a part in the collision and any additional witnesses are asked to contact Detective Sirilo Garcia of the Long Beach Police Department's Collision Investigation Detail at (562) 570-7355.
