On October 18, 2020, at approximately 7:20 p.m., officers responded to the area of Pacific Coast Highway and Lewis Avenue regarding an injury hit and run traffic collision between a vehicle and pedestrian, which resulted in the death of a male adult.

Upon arrival, officers located a pedestrian on the north sidewalk of Pacific Coast Highway.

Long Beach Fire personnel arrived on the scene and treated the pedestrian. The pedestrian was transported to a local hospital where the pedestrian succumbed to his injuries sustained during the collision.

The preliminary investigation revealed that the pedestrian was walking eastbound Pacific Coast Highway along the south sidewalk. The pedestrian then began to cross Pacific Coast Highway northbound outside of any crosswalk. Westbound vehicles were stopped in the number one and two-lanes. As the pedestrian crossed the number three-lane of westbound Pacific Coast Highway a dark-colored sedan, possibly a Dodge Challenger, struck the pedestrian. The dark-colored sedan fled the scene.

The Los Angeles County Coroner’s Office will identify the victim and notify the next of kin.

Anyone who may have witnessed this collision is asked to contact Collision Investigation Detective Shawn Loughlin at (562) 570-5520.
