Collision Investigation detectives are investigating a traffic collision that occurred on Oct. 11, 2023, which resulted in the death of a male adult.

On Oct. 11, 2023, at approximately 3:59 p.m. officers were dispatched to the intersection of Anaheim Street and West 9th Street regarding a report of a collision between a vehicle and a semi-truck, which resulted in the death of a male adult.

Upon arrival, officers discovered an unconscious male adult in a sedan suffering from life-threatening injuries after colliding with a semi-truck. Personnel from the Long Beach Fire Department arrived on scene and determined the male adult deceased.

The preliminary investigation revealed a 2009 Lexus ES350 was traveling northbound on West 9th Street just south of Anaheim Street. A 2014 Volvo semi-truck was driving southbound in the intersection of 9th Street and Anaheim Street when the Lexus made an unsafe turn to westbound Anaheim Street and collided head-on with the semi-truck.

The driver of the Volvo semi-truck, identified at the scene as a 30-year-old resident of Santa Ana, remained at the scene and cooperated with the investigation.

The identity of the Lexus driver is being withheld pending notification of the next of kin by the Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner.

Speed is believed to be a contributing factor in this collision.
