On Feb. 16, 2021 at approximately 6:20 p.m., officers responded to an injury traffic collision involving a motorcycle and a pedestrian in the intersection of McNab Avenue and Stearns Street, which resulted in the death of a male adult.

Upon arrival, officers located a male adult pedestrian who had been struck by a motorcyclist. Officers provided first aid to both parties, until the Long Beach Fire Department responded and transported them both to local hospitals.

The preliminary investigation revealed a motorcycle driven by a 23-year-old male resident of Long Beach was traveling at a high rate of speed westbound on Stearns Street when he struck a pedestrian, a 76-year-old male resident of Long Beach, who was crossing Stearns Street in an unmarked crosswalk.

The motorcyclist remained on scene, sustained minor injuries, and was transported to a local hospital. Alcohol, drugs, and distracted driving are not believed to have been a factor in the collision.

The pedestrian succumbed to his injuries at the hospital. The Los Angeles County Coroner’s Office will identify the decedent and notify next-of-kin.

Anyone with information regarding this collision is asked to contact Detective Kevin Johansen or Detective Kelsey Myers of Long Beach Police Department Collision Investigation Detail at (562)570-7355.
