On September 26, 2019 at approximately 6:20 a.m., officers responded to an injury traffic collision in the area of Redondo Ave. and 11th Street involving two vehicles and a bicyclist, which resulted in the death of a male adult.
Upon arrival, officers located a male adult bicyclist lying in the roadway in the number one northbound lane of Redondo Ave. Directly north of the bicyclist, officers found a gray 2008 Honda Civic stopped in the number one northbound lane of Redondo Ave., and a 2017 red Chevrolet Equinox stopped in the southbound number one lane of Redondo.
Long Beach Fire Department paramedics responded and began performing life-saving measures. The bicyclist succumbed to his injuries and was determined deceased at the collision scene.
The preliminary investigation revealed that a female resident of Long Beach was driving southbound Redondo Ave. in the number one lane, when a bicyclist rode his bicycle eastbound across the southbound lanes of Redondo Ave., stopping in the southbound number one lane of travel. The female driver did not see the bicyclist and struck him, causing the bicyclist to land in the number one northbound lane of Redondo Ave., where he was stuck by a second vehicle being driven by a male resident of Long Beach.
Both drivers remained on scene and cooperated with the investigation.
The bicyclist is only being identified as a male adult, pending identification by the Los Angeles County Coroner's Office.
