On Aug. 31, 2022, at approximately 4:49 a.m., officers responded to the area of Paramount Boulevard and Coolidge Street regarding an injury traffic collision between a vehicle and a pedestrian, which resulted in the death of a male adult.
Upon arrival, officers located a male pedestrian in the roadway suffering from life threatening injuries as a result of being struck by a vehicle. Officers rendered aid until personnel from the Long Beach Fire Department arrived and determined the pedestrian had succumbed to his injuries at the scene.
The preliminary investigation revealed that a BMW, driven by a male adult resident of the City of Downey, was traveling southbound on Paramount Boulevard north of Coolidge Street, when it struck the pedestrian. At the time of the collision, the pedestrian appeared to be outside of a marked or unmarked crosswalk.
The pedestrian has been identified as Fernando Gonzalez, a 64-year-old resident of Long Beach.
The driver of the BMW remained on the scene and cooperated with the investigation. At this time, neither speed, distracted driving, nor impairment are believed to be a factor in the collision.
