Collision Investigation detectives are investigating a traffic collision that occurred on Oct. 28, 2023, which resulted in the death of a male adult.

On Saturday, Oct. 28, 2023, at approximately 3:20 p.m. officers were dispatched to the area of Pacific Place and Wardlow Road, regarding an injury traffic collision between a vehicle and a bicyclist, which resulted in the death of a male adult.

Upon arrival, officers found a collision had occurred between a 2021 Jeep Gladiator and a bicyclist. The driver of the Jeep attempted to treat the bicyclist with life-saving measures immediately after the collision. The Long Beach Fire Department arrived on scene and transported the bicyclist to a local hospital for further treatment, where he later succumbed to his injuries.

The preliminary investigation revealed the 2021 Jeep Gladiator, driven by a 43-year-old resident of Long Beach, was traveling northbound on Pacific Place north of Wardlow Road, when the bicyclist was crossing the eastbound in lanes of traffic, north of the intersection. The driver of the Jeep attempted to swerve out of the way but was unable to avoid the bicyclist colliding into the side of her vehicle.

The driver remained on scene and cooperated with the investigation. Distracted driving, impaired driving and speed were not believed to be a factor at the time of the collision.
