On June 8, 2023 at approximately 7:08 p.m., officers were dispatched to the area of Pacific Coast Highway and Junipero Avenue regarding an injury traffic collision involving an overturned vehicle, which resulted in the death of a male adult.
Upon arrival, officers located a 2024 Lexus NX250 that had struck a Dodge Challenger and then collided into a Toyota RAV4 and a Jeep Compass. The Long Beach Fire Department responded to the scene and found the driver of the Lexus had succumbed to his injuries at the scene. The male adult driver of the Dodge and two male adult passengers in the Toyota were transported to local hospitals for non-life-threatening injuries.
The preliminary investigation revealed the Lexus was traveling westbound on Pacific Coast Highway in the eastbound lanes of travel. The Lexus collided with a Dodge Challenger head on and continued driving westbound, striking a Toyota RAV4 and a Jeep Compass before coming to rest on its passenger side.
The Lexus was being driven by a 56-year-old male resident of Long Beach and their identification is being withheld pending next of kin notification by the Los Angeles County Coroner's Office.
Speed, drugs, and alcohol are not believed to be a factor in this collision.
