Collision Investigation detectives are investigating a traffic collision that occurred on Jan. 7, 2024, which resulted in the death of a female adult.

At approximately 8:09 p.m., officers responded to the area of Pacific Coast Highway and Cherry Avenue regarding an injury traffic collision involving a pedestrian.

Upon arrival, officers located a female adult pedestrian in the roadway suffering from life-threatening injuries to the lower body. Officers rendered medical aid until Long Beach Fire Department personnel arrived on scene and determined the pedestrian had succumbed to her injuries.

The preliminary investigation revealed a vehicle was traveling westbound on Pacific Coast Highway west of Cherry Avenue when it struck an adult female pedestrian who was crossing Pacific Coast Highway outside of the crosswalk.

The driver remained on scene and cooperated with the investigation.

The identity of the pedestrian is being withheld pending notification of the next of kin by the Los Angeles County Department of the Medical Examiner.

At this time, speed, distracted and impaired driving do not appear to be a factor in the collision.

Anyone who may have witnessed this collision is asked to contact LBPD Collision Investigation Detail Detective Kelsey Myers at (562) 570-7355.
