Collision Investigation detectives are investigating a traffic collision that occurred on Sept. 7, 2023, which resulted in the death of a male adult.

On Sept. 7, 2023, at approximately 10:39 p.m., officers were dispatched to the area of Pacific Avenue and 23rd Street regarding an injury traffic collision between a vehicle and a pedestrian.

Upon arrival, officers discovered a vehicle had struck a male adult pedestrian. Officers began rendering life-saving aid to the pedestrian until Long Beach Fire Department personnel arrived on scene. The pedestrian later succumbed to his injuries at the scene.

The preliminary investigation revealed a 2016 Dodge Charger, driven by a male resident of Long Beach, was traveling southbound on Pacific Avenue north of 23rd Street, when the pedestrian was crossing westbound in lanes of traffic outside of a marked crosswalk. The driver of the Dodge was unable to stop or avoid striking the pedestrian. The driver remained on scene and cooperated with the investigation.

Distracted driving, impaired driving nor speed are not believed to be a factor at the time of the collision.

Anyone who may have witnessed this collision is asked to contact LBPD Collision Investigation Detective Jeff Meyer (562) 570-7355.
