On Nov. 23, 2021 at approximately 5:52 p.m., officers were dispatched to an injury traffic collision in the area of Pacific Avenue and 12th Street, which resulted in the death of a female adult and the arrest of a male adult suspect.
When officers arrived, they discovered a vehicle had struck a female adult pedestrian. The Long Beach Fire Department was already on scene treating the victim. The victim was transported to a local hospital where she succumbed to her injuries.
The preliminary investigation revealed a 2016 Nissan Sentra driven by a 68-year-old male resident of Long Beach was traveling northbound on Pacific Avenue when he struck a 62-year-old female resident of Long Beach as she was attempting to cross Pacific Avenue outside of a crosswalk.
The driver of the Nissan Sentra, Tyrone Tate, a 68-year-old resident of Long Beach, was arrested and booked for driving under the influence and carrying a concealed firearm. Bail is set at $100,000. Speed does not appear to be a factor in this collision.
The identification of the pedestrian is being held pending notification of next of kin.
