On Thursday December 12, 2019 at approximately 8:15 a.m., officers responded to an injury traffic collision near the area of Del Amo Boulevard and Gardenia Avenue involving a vehicle and pedestrian, that ultimately resulted in the death of a male adult.
Upon arrival, officers located a male adult pedestrian on the raised center median having sustained major injuries to his upper and lower torso. Long Beach Fire Department personnel arrived on scene, began administering medical aid and transported the pedestrian to a local hospital in critical condition.
The preliminary investigation revealed a 2010 Chrysler Sebring, driven by a 61-year-old male resident of Long Beach, was traveling westbound on Del Amo Blvd at approximately 35 miles per hour when the pedestrian ran out into traffic from the north sidewalk of Del Amo Blvd and was struck by the vehicle.
The driver remained on scene and cooperated with the investigation. Speed, cell phone distraction and/or DUI are not considered factors in this collision.
On December 25, 2019, the Long Beach Police Department was notified by the Los Angeles County Coroner's Office that pedestrian had been pronounced deceased on December 23rd. The pedestrian is identified as 32-year-old Angel D. Ibarra Jr. of Long Beach.
