Collision Investigation detectives are investigating a fatal traffic collision that occurred on Dec. 9, 2023 near Atlantic Avenue and Patterson Street.

At approximately 5:26 p.m., officers responded to the area of Atlantic Avenue and Patterson Street regarding an injury traffic collision. Upon arrival, Long Beach Fire Department personnel were already on scene and rendering aid to a female adult pedestrian found in the roadway, having been flagged down by bystanders. Despite the lifesaving efforts of paramedics, the pedestrian succumbed to her injuries at the scene.

The preliminary investigation indicates the pedestrian was in the intersection of 28th Street and Atlantic Avenue, when she was struck by a vehicle traveling southbound. The vehicle left the scene of the collision, however later returned. The driver of the vehicle, Ronald Quispe, a 32-year-old resident of Long Beach, cooperated with the investigation and was later arrested and booked for felony hit and run. Bail has been set at $0.

The identity of the pedestrian is being withheld, pending notification of the next of kin.
At this time, neither speed, distracted driving, nor impaired driving are believed to be factors in the collision.
