On May 22, 2023, at approximately 9:58 p.m., officers were dispatched to the area of Anaheim Street and Santa Fe Avenue regarding a traffic collision between a vehicle and a pole, which resulted in the death of a male adult.

Upon arrival, officers discovered a vehicle had collided into a power pole. Officers located an injured male adult driver and they performed life-saving medical aid until the Long Beach Fire Department arrived—however, the driver succumbed to his injuries at the scene.

The preliminary investigation revealed a 1967 AMC Rambler driven by a 42-year-old resident of Long Beach was traveling westbound on Anaheim Street. The vehicle veered off the roadway and struck a power pole. It is unknown at this time why the driver lost control of the vehicle —however, speed and impaired driving are not believed to be factors in this collision.

No other vehicles are believed to be involved at this time, and no one else was inside the vehicle at the time of the collision.

The identification of the driver is being withheld pending next of kin notification by the Los Angeles County Coroner's Office.

Anyone with information regarding this collision are asked to contact Detective Kelsey Myers of the Long Beach Police Department Collision Investigation Detail at (562)570-7355.
