Collision Investigation Detectives are investigating a traffic collision that occurred on June 14, 2024, which resulted in the death of a male adult bicyclist.
At approximately 5:05 a.m., officers were dispatched to the area of 7th Street and Bellflower Boulevard regarding an injury traffic collision.
Upon arrival, officers located the collision in the eastbound lanes of 7th Street, east of Margo Avenue. Officers discovered an unconscious adult male bicyclist lying on the south sidewalk of 7th Street. Long Beach Fire Department personnel responded to the scene and determined the bicyclist deceased.
The preliminary investigation revealed that the bicyclist was traveling eastbound in the number three lane of 7th Street, when he was struck from behind by a vehicle which was also traveling eastbound in the number three lane.
The driver of the vehicle remained at the scene and is cooperating with the investigation. At this time, neither speed, distracted driving, nor impaired driving are suspected as being factors in the collision.
The Los Angeles County Department of the Medical Examiner responded to the scene, and the decedent's identity is being withheld pending notification of the next of kin.
