On Tuesday, Mar 8, 2022, at approximately 4:00 p.m., officers responded to an injury traffic collision near the area of 7th Street and Magnolia Avenue which resulted in the death of a male adult.
Upon arrival, officers located a collision involving a vehicle and a motorcyclist. Officers rendered first aid to the motorcyclist until the Long Beach Fire Department responded.
The preliminary investigation revealed a 2011 Hyundai Sonata driven by a 48-year-old resident of Westminster was traveling westbound 7th Street in the number-two lane when he made a left turn from the number-two lane to travel southbound onto Magnolia Avenue and struck the motorcycle. The motorcycle was driven by a 61-year-old resident of Long Beach who was traveling westbound on 7th Street in the number-one lane.
The motorcyclist was transported to a local hospital in critical but stable condition. On Monday, Mar 14, 2022, Collision Investigation Detectives were notified that the motorcyclist had succumbed to his injuries at the hospital on Wednesday, Mar 9, 2022.
Identification of the motorcyclist is being withheld pending next of kin notification, which will be conducted by the Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner-Coroner.
The Hyundai driver remained on the scene and cooperated with the investigation.
At this time, neither speed nor impaired or distracted driving appear to be factors in this collision.
