On 10/30/20 at approximately 2:40 p.m., officers responded to an injury traffic collision in the area of 7th Street and Cherry Avenue, that resulted in the death of a female adult.

Upon arrival, officers located two vehicles and a pedestrian that had been involved in the collision. The Long Beach Fire Department responded, began administering medical aid, but the pedestrian, a 61-year-old resident of Long Beach, succumbed to her injuries at the scene.

The preliminary investigation revealed a 2017 BMW, driven by a 38-year-old resident of Long Beach, struck a 2000 GMC, driven by a 69-year-old resident of Fontana, in the intersection of 7th Street and Cherry Avenue. This collision caused the driver of 2000 GMC to lose control of his vehicle and strike a pedestrian who was sitting on the bus bench.

Both drivers remained on scene and cooperated with the investigation. Alcohol, drugs, and distracted driving were not a factor for either driver. They were positively identified with their valid driver’s licenses, had proof of insurance, and were released from the scene.

The Los Angeles County Coroner’s Office is working on notifying the pedestrian’s next of kin.

Anyone with information regarding the collision are asked to contact Detective Shawn Loughlin or Detective Kelsey Myers of the Long Beach Police Department Collision Investigation Detail at (562) 570-7355.
