On October 10th, 2020 at approximately 1:30 am, officers responded to an injury traffic collision involving two vehicles at the intersection of 6th Street and Pacific Avenue, which later resulted in the death of a male adult.
The preliminary investigation revealed that a 2011 Chevy Cruz was traveling eastbound on 6th Street and struck a 2016 Nissan Maxima traveling southbound on Pacific Avenue. The driver of the Nissan, a 28-year-old male adult resident of Gardena, was the only occupant in the vehicle and was injured in the collision. The investigation revealed the collision occurred when the Nissan driver ran a red light at the intersection. The Long Beach Fire Department responded to the scene and transported the driver to a local hospital with what appeared to be non-life-threatening injuries.
The driver of the Chevy Cruz remained at the scene and cooperated with the investigation.
On October 20th, 2020, the Collision Investigation Detail was notified that the male driver of the 2016 Nissan passed away at the hospital on October 13th, 2020.
The cause of death will be determined by the Los Angeles County Coroner’s Office, who will also assist in notifying the next of kin.
