On Dec. 23, 2020 at approximately 10:30 p.m., officers were dispatched to the 300 block of East Wardlow Road regarding a traffic collision, which resulted in the death of a female adult pedestrian.
Upon arrival, officers located a female adult pedestrian who had been struck by a vehicle. Long Beach Fire Department personnel had also arrived on scene and performed life saving measures. The pedestrian was transported to a local hospital where she later succumbed to her injuries.
Through their preliminary investigation, detectives believe a 2007 Mercedes driven by a 65-year-old Long Beach resident was travelling eastbound on East Wardlow Road when she struck a pedestrian who was in the roadway and not in a crosswalk.
The driver remained on scene and cooperated with the investigation. Alcohol, drugs, and distracted driving are not believed to have been a factor in the collision. The driver was positively identified with her valid driver’s license, had proof of insurance, and was released from the scene, pending further investigation.
The Los Angeles County Coroner’s Office will identify the decedent and notify next-of-kin.
