On Dec. 15, 2020, at approximately 2:25 a.m., Officers responded to an injury hit and run traffic collision near the 1200 block of Long Beach Boulevard, which resulted in the death of a male adult.
When officers arrived, they located a male pedestrian who had been struck by a vehicle. The Long Beach Fire Department transported the pedestrian to a local hospital in critical condition.
The preliminary investigation revealed the driver of a 2012 Nissan Altima was traveling southbound on Long Beach Boulevard when they lost control of their vehicle at the intersection of Long Beach Boulevard and Anaheim Street, striking the pedestrian, a tree, and a parked vehicle. The suspect fled the scene before officers arrived, and the suspect vehicle was located unoccupied nearby.
On Dec. 23, 2020, detectives from the Long Beach Collision Investigation Detail were notified that the victim had succumbed to his injuries.
The victim has been identified as a 68-year-old resident of Long Beach. The identification of the victim is being withheld until the Los Angeles County Coroner’s Office has notified next-of-kin.
